Fri 2 JUL 2010

From the rain last night, Hogar de Ninos was without water this morning. Apparently a broken wire a mile or more down the dirt road from the storm. Candi got an electrician and plumber out so all is back to "normal" again. Today was clean-up day so the children cleaned the grounds and inside each building.

Check out the photo from the top of the hill of the property at Hogar de Ninos - notice the stark contrast to the distant high rises on the beach in the background - if only there was a road directly from the Home to the beach....

Other photos show the damage done to the fences that we'd repaired last summer. Unfortunately a hurricane hit last fall that caused this minor damage. Rex & Mark - any suggestions on how to "hurricane proof" a fence?? (I know...I'm a dreamer....)

We went to find out how to rent a jack-hammer and compressor today - it's never at the first place we look....but finding the correct store and being able to figure out how to do things is part of the adventure. Since the rental of the jack-hammer is only allowed by Mexican Nationals, the Assistant Director of the Home, Lulu will go with me Tuesday morning to rent it.

There is a missionary who is nearing her 10 month stay at Hogar de Ninos. She has collected donations to help build / repair the home of a woman and her children from the village. They currently don't have a roof, just a blanket covering the area where they live...which wasn't good last night in the storm. We'll assist Rachel (the missionary) Saturday afternoon with our truck to help her pick up the lumber and then help out as needed with her project.

Saturday evening there is a 4th of July get-together with a family of 6 from Minnesota who we met last summer at Hogar de Ninos. This couple and their 4 children organized the VBS at the Home last summer and are wonderful Christians!!! That's all for today - I'll try to send photos tomorrow evening.

God Bless Everyone!!

Barb
