I have had a blast on this trip!!! It's been so much fun. I'm so impressed with how well these kids have been doing. I haven't seen a single frown, except for the occasional accident when someone falls down. These people are just so happy. I think they just forget about their real homes when they come stay at Hogar de Ninos. I'm so happy that these families are trusting enough to let these kids stay here and that this home is available for these kids. but for some families they have no choice and need to send their kids away. These kids are very intelligent and very helpful. It's really hard to get a real sense of how these kids feel because all of us know we have something or someone to come home to. But at least we get a little bit more of a sense of how others are living and dealing with true poverty. I had an eye opening experience today when I dropped these kids off at their real homes. Many of them cried when they had to leave and go back home. I've even heard of many of the parents telling Hoger de Ninos that they didn't want their kids to come back. This whole experience has been wild and fun and amazing. The wildlife is fun too! I just caught a small poisonous scorpion about 10 minutes ago in a very skilled manner; this is nothng compared to the kids here to catch them and take their stingers off and show them off while holding them in their hands. The chickens and roosters are definetely making some noise in the morning, and the small newborn kittens are fun to play with too, they keep us entertained. It's been fun learning and experiencing the mexican culture. This whole thing has been eye opening and exciting. I'm having such a great time and loving this relaxed Mexican culture. This next week and a half should be a peice of cake if it continues like this!

Dear family and friends of the CUMC mission kids,
This past constuction week has been very eventful and we have gotten a lot done. We have poured cement, painted two houses, and moved a lot of dirt. The kids here are really great. They are always happy and they put a smile on your face. I've had a blast so far and only one week has passed, I am really looking forward to the next week. Bryce, Tyler, and I fixed the whole fence line one day. It was pretty fun since one part of the fence was being "guarded" by a giant bush of stinging nettle. We had to hack it down with a machette which was very fun. The second time we poured cement, Bryce and I got to work in the "mud" and we got to wear awesome boots (cool boots). We did the whole square that we poured, with a little help from the adults, but mostly by ourselves. So dad, if you are reading this and also thinking we need new cement at home...... Bryce and I are your guys for the job. Scott can come too. That's mostly whats goin' on in this neck of the world.

We've been working with our VBS Teams (Music, Bible, Crafts and Sports) to practice what we're goThis evening we began working on the stage props for the train for the skit. VBS starts Tues 13 JUL at 4pm!!!
Tonight we also did a very rough rehearsal for our worship service we'll be doing this Sunday afternoon 11 JUL. Our goal is to finish all construction projects tomorrow morning, then spend the rest of the day working on the worship service and VBS. Tomoorow right after breakfast we'll spend about 30 min practicing all the Spanish songs we'll be singing (6) in the worship service!!!
Our youth are physically and mentally tired! God keeps all of us going!! We hope to have another excursion each day (i.e. today we all went as the kids were dropped off at their homes and then later a group walked down the dirt road - over a mile to the village to get cokes and other treats - first opportunity they had to purchase "treats" down here.) Yesterday evening, Candi took the group on a "drive-by" of Mazatlan and they got to see the beach and other parts of the city.....and yes - they also got to get out of the van.
