Thur 8 JUL 2010

Today I took Luis (13 yrs) and 5 boys (ages 5-7 yrs) with me to run errands. We ended up at 4 different stores. The younger boys were so excited - it was like I was taking them to Disneyland!!!

By the time we got back to the Home, the rest of the adults from our group said, "we thought you were a bit 'loco' for taking 6 boys with you to run errands!!!" Yes - I am "loco" and proud of it!!

It feels good to be doing this for the children at Hogar de Ninos. So far I've scraped the walls and helped with cement. Now I am painting and I'm really full of paint. It's fun playing with the kids in soccer and trampoline jumping. It's fun !!

The whole experince has been really refreshing and eye opening. It has truly shown me how lucky we are to have such an abundance of luxury back home and I will appreciate it that much more. So far we have laid 3 meters of concrete, evened out a hill, and painted three buildings. what we have to offer and share with the kids will impact them more than we know. the experinces and lessons gained from this trip will last a lifetime.

WOW. I do not know where to even begin. This experience has been incredible so far. I can not describe how happy and giving all of these people are even though they have far less than we do. I really look up to all of these kids especially because I have not heard one complant come from a single one of them. Today we gave them all one new outfit, and the looks on their faces were priceless. I felt so good giving them something they will never forget. Last night we all choose different kids to write 5 good things about them. I had Cristian, and he told me that he was funny, smart and likes "muchachas bonitas" or beautiful ladies. I thought that was the cutest thing and it really showed me that these kids are just like us. They enjoy the same things we do and they act just like us except they do not take anything for granted. This experience has taught me to not take anything for granted. I now fully understand that when I think my situation is bad, somewhere else in the world, someone else's is worse. I would not take back one second of this trip even though it is only the third day. I am looking forward to everything we have in store to come. Thank you God for this once in a lifetime opportunity. Hey mom and dad, when you read this know that I have been drinking lots of water and have not felt sick yet. I love you both and hopefully will blog again soon.
Love in Christ,
Haley
